"Two of Idah Meacham Strobridge's books, The Loom of the Desert (1907) and The Land of Purple Shadows (1909), remain classic descriptions of desert living." Kevin Starr, Inventing the Dream, p. 113. Charming short stories of the California and Nevada desert. Strobridge was born in the Bay Area, educated at Mills College and lived in the Pasadena art colony of the Arroyo Seco. Her three books, all privately issued from her book bindery, are stories of the life of a woman settler in the desert. "The books of Strobridge represent the beginning of fine book production in LA, in which content, format, and illustrations join harmoniously." Powell, Heart of the Southwest, 105. (Paher, Nevada 1901).
