Author's first book. In "Jim Bludso of the Prairie Belle", Hay memorializes Bludso's courage and selflessness in sacrificing his own life so that the passengers on his burning boat might survive. Hay served as private secretary & assistant to President Lincoln during the Civil War; he also served as Secretary of State under Presidents McKinley and Roosevelt.
