Dr. James A. Rousseau came to San Bernardino with one of the wagon trains in 1864. This account of the journey, kept by his wife Sarah, covers a portion of the entire journey from Iowa to California taken by the Rousseau, Curtis, Earp, and Hamilton families. Dr. Rousseau later became county superintendent of schools in San Bernardino in 1877.
