In the 1960’s, the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency used Federal Funds to relocate business and residents and with 5 developers bidding, chose the Perini Corp of Boston to develop the Golden Gateway area near the Ferry building. The proposal's design team included the architectural firms of Wurster, Bernardi and Emmons; DeMars and Reay; with Dean Pietro Belluschi and Milton Schwartz acting as consultants. It is considered the most successful project the SF Redevelopment Agency has completed.
