Edwards, The Enduring Desert, pp. 58-59: "The Memorial Edition, while bearing the publication date of 1933, is - in fact - identical to the so-called First Edition published in 1932. The Zamorano Club merely picked up 130 copies of the first edition, added the memorial articles, and bound them in full leather. (It has been anonymously stated that only 50 of these copies were bound in full leather and printed on a special grade of paper)...Says Mr. Layne in his Preface - The Diary is of especial interest not alone for the many details of life and conditions it depicts, as well as the numerous persons mentioned, but for the fact that it is one of the few early diaries of an expedition going east from California." (Edwards, The Enduring Desert, pp. 58-59; Howes C811).
