Richard Mansfield (1857-1907) was an English actor-manager best known for his performances in Shakespeare plays, Gilbert and Sullivan operas and for his portrayal of the dual title roles in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. This set was bound especially for Wallace T. Hughes, as printed on 4th ffep in each volume. Three-quarter dark green leather over blue cloth boards; decked page edges; TEG; marbled endpapers; 5 raised bands & gilt lettering & decoration to spines. A very good set (leather on spines browned; owner bookplate & blindstamps in 3 volumes; dampstaining to lower front boards of 2 volumes; minor foxing; some corner boards starting to show; light wear to extremities, joints and spine ends); still, a handsome set.
