Fourth American Edition. 12mo; [4], 300pp; 283pp. With Volume 1 frontispiece "Dutch Courtship" and Volume 2, "A Schepen Laughing at a Burgomaster's Joke." Both Volumes handsomely bound in full vellum with gilt lettering to spine. Upper boards decorated with diamond motif with flowers within double gilt rule. Top edges gilt (others untrimmed); ribbon markers bound in both volumes. Near Fine copies (scattered foxing, especially to frontispieces). In worn paper-covered, lined slipcase with one joint split. (BAL 10238) Laid into volume 2 are the 3 illustrations from Elbert Hubbard's chapter on Washington Irving in "Little Journeys to the Homes of American Authors;" 1) "Sunnyside," The House of Washington Irving; 2) Facsimile of Manuscript of Irving's "Knickerbocker New York; 3) Portrait of Irving steel-plate from the original drawing by Vanderlyn (Paris, 1805).
