Born in Massachusetts, Procter left at the age of 19 for Kansas to engage in the struggle to make Kansas a free state. Two years later, he became the youngest delegate to the Chicago Convention of 1860 at which Lincoln was nominated. Here is Procter's first hand account of his experiences during the Convention.
