Princess Der Ling was a Manchu born in 1885. In 1903, following her education abroad, she became the First lady-in-waiting to Empress Dowager Cixi, as well as a translator, staying at court until1905. Here she gives historical insights into life at court and her service to the Dowager Empress, essentially a world that has disappeared.
