First Edition 8vo. xv, [1], 331, [11] pp. Illustrated with 8 engraved plates, including frontispiece and title page. Contemporary brown leather with gilt decoration & lettering on red label to spine. Wear to extremities; rubbing to boards & spine; front joint split but holding; endpapers heavily foxed; light internal foxing; a good copy. Item #18478

"Chiefly a political satire." Sabin 21778 says "the authors were Alsop, Dwight, Cogswell, Hopkins, and Trumbull." (BAL 1315). One of the plates shows Infant Liberty, nursed by Mother Mob; another titled "Negro Ball" shows African-Americans dancing to fiddle music; and another is titled "Ludicrous scene in a Barber's Shop - Democracy."
