The source for the 1954 Robert Aldrich movie, "Apache," with a blue-eyed Burt Lancaster portraying the title character and with Jean Peters, Charles Bronson and John McIntire. Here is the story of Massai, Apache warrior under Geronimo, who is on his way to Florida in the prison train after Geronimo's betrayal and surrender. Massai escapes from the train and eventually makes his way back to Arizona, where he is betrayed by one of his own people, is recaptured and sent back to the Florida prison where he kills his guards and escapes into the High Sierras.
