Illustrated throughout with colored images, frontispiece with tissue guards, folding plates, drawings, fold-out map of Pootoo, "China's Sacred Island." Previous owner name "Lucy Ayers Pitman" and dated Nov. 27, 1915. Mrs. Pitman was the wife of Norman Hinsdale Pitman, an American author who collected Chinese myths and fairy tales, and wrote them for English audiences. Three-quarter maroon leather with yellow printed boards; black lettering & illustrations to front boards; gilt lettering to spines. A bookworm has created small holes through the first and last few pages in Volume I; debrading to the spines; front cover of Volume II is detached; general wear; a good set of a scarce collection of The East of Asia Magazine, which ran from 1902-1906.
