First book edition, first published in the Los Angeles Evening Express, 1878. Foster was a delegate to the Constitutional Convention of 1849. When the second Constitutional Convention was about to be held he wrote this account of his trip to Monterey for the original Convention. A graduate of Yale and an Alcalde of Los Angeles, Foster served as state Senator in the 'fifties. He was also the first Superintendent of Schools and inaugurated the public school system in Los Angeles. One of 100 copies printed for Glen Dawson by William M. Cheney. Item #19926
