Born Daniel Albert Harris (1914-1986), he changed his name to Zev when he moved to Europe in 1953 having been discovered a decade earlier by Grace McCann Morley, founder of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. During this period, Zev lived in Big Sur, CA where most likely he met Henry Miller and where his artistic handprint is evident throughout the iconic Nepenthe Restaurant, most notably his whimsical bird logo.
