Ancient Chinese Shell Currency and Derivate Money

Oakland CA: East Asian Numismatic Library, 1969. First Edition. Octavo; vii, 22pp unbound. 'Number 4 of a Limited Edition.' Henry Alexander Ramsden was the foremost exponent of East Asian numismatic studies in the early 20th century. Although this 'projected publication' was advertised in 1914, at Ramsden's death in 1915 it remained unpublished. When the unfinished work was found among his papers at the Museum of American Numismatic Society, H.F. Bowker (a noted numismatist and philatelist, he created the first bibliography of Western language publications on East Asian numismatics) edited it for printing in 1969; we can locate no record of this booklet being published either. The offering here is assembled from loose sheets. Item #20384
