A detailed catalog of a "magnificent collection of nearly five hundred documents concerned with the Conquest of California and its aftermath, and over five hundred papers concerned with Gillespie's private life". Zeitlin goes on to state that neither Bancroft nor Hittell had access to the documents and that they had never beend used by any historian.
