Other than Jack London's novels, this is probably the best-selling novel of that madness. "Here at last is the story of the great stampede of gold-seekers to Alaska. It is a story of incredible daring, greed, cruelty, suffering, fortitude - a drama of epic magnitude enacted among the snow-filled passes and frozen plains of the far north." - dustjacket flap.
