Harvey Andrew Russell was raised on the Triunfo Ranch (a part of the old Conejo Grant) and with his brothers Hubbard and Joseph operated a number of ranches throughout California, including San Carlos Ranch in Carmel Valley. Prominent statewide, Russell served as a director of both the California Cattlemen's Association and the American National Cattlemen's Association and was a recognized authority on wild grasses used for cattle feed.
