London: E. & F.N. Spon, 1864. First Edition thus. 12mo; [4], iii, 87, [1]pp including 9 illustrations. A Fair lending library copy with bookplate to front pastedown and ink stamps in text in 3/4 black calf and marbled boards, spine gilt-ruled and lettered. Complete, but with title page mostly detached (as is plate 6). The author was senior partner in Dunn & Hewett after the death of Daniel Dunn, who invented instant cocoa powder. Dunn & Hewett continued to be one of the leading cocoa manufacturers as late as 1911.
