Los Gatos, California: Published by the author/Times Printing Company, 1953. First Edition. 8vo. 78 pp. Illustrations. Tan illustrated stiff wrappers in near fine condition (minor wear; light marks on rear cover). Item #21054

Personal stories of early pioneers of the Santa Clara Valley in the mid-to-late 1800's. "The Cats" along the Santa Cruz Highway are collossal and majestic, standing guard at the entrance to Poets' Canyon and Wood's estate with the grand exalted "castle in the sky" above. The castle was the treasured home of Col. Charles Erskine Scott Wood and Sara Bard Field where they hoped to continue their writings unmolested by traffic, trams and uninvited visitors. These cats were the work of distinguished sculptor, Rober Paine. and named 'Leo' and 'Leona' for a pair of mountain lions who earlier had made a home and family on the estate.
