Catalogue for auction held over 6 days during February and March, 1914, of the "Extraordinary Private Collection of Mr. S.S. Carvalho", including 1027 items, each with description and many photographed. Solomon Solis Carvalho (1856-1942) became a successful newspaperman working first for Joseph Pulitzer with the "Evening World" and then with Randolph Hearst on the New York Journal. Hearst trusted Carvalho completely who perhaps did more than anyone save Hearst himself to build the first great publishing empire. Carvalho's vast and important collection of Chinese porcelain was accumulated by him over many years.
