'Tailholt Tales' is a much expanded version of an earlier work titled 'Uncle Jeff', a memoir of Thomas Jefferson Mayfield, a San Joaquin Valley pioneer who lived with the Yokuts Indians. The author's books on the Yokut Indians are still regarded as some of the finest work on the natives indigenous to the San Joaquin Valley. Frank Latta was a well known historian who in 1906 while still a student conducted his first interview. He later went around and found old timers still living and interviewed them about various historical people and incidents.
