This is the definitive history of the area most commonly knowns as "The Gravevine" in Kern county, California, from the late eighteenth century to the mid-twentieth. The author spent years interviewing the majordomo of Rancho El Tejon, Jose Jesus Lopez, to gather this unprecedented collection of historic events of the transition from the Mexican Land Grants to Ranchos of the late 1800’s. Frank Latta was a well known historian who in 1906 while still a student conducted his first interview. He later went around and found old timers still living and interviewed them about various historical people and incidents.
