Octavos; five volumes uniformly bound in black cloth with red spine labels lettered in gold in sympathetic black slipcase with red printed label; top edge stained red. A handsome set; the volumes are in fine condition while the slipcase has minor extremity wear. With a new introduction by Andre Maurois. One of Ward's full-page illustrations introduces each volume, which features his striking head- and tailpiece works throughout. Each volume’s illustrations were printed in a single color unique to that volume. The edition was designed by Peter Beilenson and printed by him at the Walpole Printing Office in Mount Vernon. signed by the illustrator, Lynd Ward at the colophon in Volume 5 (this being #182).
