Ansel Adams, a visionary figure in nature photography and wilderness preservation, is synonymous with Yosemite Valley. He first visited the Park in 1916 with his family. He later wrote of his first view of the valley: "the splendor of Yosemite burst upon us and it was glorious.... One wonder after another descended upon us.... There was light everywhere.... A new era began for me." The stunning beauty of Yosemite is captured in these images including some of his most noteworthy...Clearing Winter Storm, Yosemite Valley, 1944; Thunderstorm, Yosemite Valley, 1945; Monolith, The Face of Half Dome, Yosemite Valley, 1927; Half Dome, Merced River, Winter, Yosemite Valley, ca. 1938; and Moon and Half Dome, Yosemite Valley, 1960.
