Three-quarter brown leather over brown cloth boards; gilt lettering and decoration to spine; marbled endpapers. A very good copy (light rubbing to leather; a few pencil notations). An uncommon collection of the first issues of The Chautauquan. Item #21821

Theodore Flood established 'The Chautauquan' monthly magazine in October 1880; by mid-December the first three issues (October, November and December) were exhausted. To satisfy demand, Flood had the 'Required Reading' for those 3 issues reprinted (as pages 1-57 here); however, because of the press of work, he was unable to reprint the numbers in full. Flood then bound the first three reprints with the complete January through July, 1881 issues.
