That Shining Hour (Senator Joe Tydings' copy, poignantly INSCRIBED to him by Pat Kennedy)

NP: Halliday Lithograph Corporation, 1969. First Edition. Octavo; xi, [3], 306pp. A Fine copy in dark blue cloth; upper board and spine titled in gold. Pat Lawford assembled this book of recollections in tribute to her brother, Bobby Kennedy (Tydings' tribute appears on page 272). The ffep bears Lawford's simple, emotional inscription 'For Joe, Gratefully, Pat June 1969' (below the inscription is the blindstamp of Tydings' library). Joe Tydings was a close friend to both JFK and Bobby Kennedy from the late 1950s and when JFK first decided to run for president he enlisted Tydings as his campaign manager in Maryland. In 1963 the Kennedy brothers convinced Tydings, then U.S. Attorney for Maryland, to run for the Senate. As freshmen senators, Tydings and Bobby Kennedy had been inseparable (they even attended Martin Luther King's funeral together earlier in 1968) and Teddy Kennedy and Tydings were the first U.S. Senators to endorse Bobby Kennedy for President. "... We worked with him and supported him because he was the most courageous effective exponent of the ideals and objectives we shared with him and his brother before him..." (from Tydings' tribute).
