10 Albumen Photographs of Yosemite Valley
Printed in Boston by Alexander Moore, 1871. Ten disbound albumen photos on separate leaves from, "The Wonders of Yosemite Valley, and of California" by Prof. Samuel Kneeland, A. M.. M. D., Professor of Zoology In The Massachusetts Institute Of Technology - With Original Photographic Illustrations, By John P. Soule. The photographs document two trips that Dr. Kneeland took to California between 1869 and 1871. Although the photos were credited to John P. Soule, he apparently never visited Yosemite. It is believed that he acquired the negatives from Yosemite photographer Martin Mason Hazeltine. The photos include the following titles, Yosemite Fall. 2634 feet high. North Dome - Wash'n Column - Royal Arches. From Merced River. Half, or South Dome (1 1/8 Mile high,) from head of Valley. El Capitan (3100 ft above Valley,) from Merced River. Bridal Veil Fall. 940 feet high. Mirror Lake and Mt. Watkins. Vernal Fall (350 ft. high) and Cap of Liberty (4600 ft. above Valley.) Nevada Fall. 700 feet high. The Sentinels. 315 feet high, diam. 20 feet. The Yosemite Valley. 4060 feet above the Sea. Each photo measures approximately 3 1/8 x 3 1/2 inches. Each leaf measures approximately 5 x 7 inches.
