Robidoux was part of the first group of Indo-European explorers of the western half of North America. He was an American of French extraction who went to Santa Fe and Taos and was involved in trading furs and horses. Later joined the American "Army of the West" under Stephen Watts Kearney in the U.S. war with Mexico as an interpreter. His brother was an important early landowner of Riverside; Mount Robidoux is named for him.
