Burgess was a charter member of the American branch of 'The Shakespeare Fellowship' (which held that Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford, was the true author of the works of Shakespeare), raising funds for them with radio and newspaper interviews. In 1946 attorney Ogburn provided legal assistance in incorporating the American branch in 1946 and '... was best known as an advocate of the Oxfordian theory of Shakespeare authorship... He wrote over a dozen books and numerous magazine articles.' (wiki).
