Manuscript title page dated 1889-1890, frontis hand-drawn color map of the United Kingdom (some of the cities named are discussed in the text) manuscript text on rectos, ~150 beautifully hand-drawn illustrations, many in color, one large folding drawing (7 1/2" x 30") tipped in, on versos. Laid in at rear is a 1-page manuscript "Modifications aux instructions speciales concernant le service des Mecaniciens et Chaffeurs Cie des Chemins de Fer Départementaux" ("Amendments to the Special Instructions for the Service of Mechanics and Drivers of the Departmental Railway Company"). In well-worn black cloth binding, 'Institut Industriel Lille' and rules stamped in blind. Fair condition only; front hinge separated (ffep detached).and and binding fragile. Item #22307
Among the topics(translated from the French) are 'Locomotive;' 'Influence of Ramps:' 'Influence of Curves;' Placement of Stations;' 'Earthworks;' 'Ordinary (and Exceptional) engineering structures;' 'Tunnels;' 'Track and stations;' 'Lane changes;' 'Signals;'Boilers;' etc. While this is a technical course, the copious illustrations are quite beautiful! Keromnes was Principal Engineer of the machine shops of Chemin de Fer du Nord (Northern Railway of France, now part of SNCF) and this 'Railways Course' was his contribution to the engineering school and research institute in Lille.
