A compilation created in conjunction with Cage's exhibition held at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Contributions by Anne d'Harnoncourt, Julie Lazar, Laura Kuhn, Joan Retallack, Mark Swed, Marshall McLuhan, Andrew Weil, Ellsworth Snyder and D. T. Suzuki. Also included are writings and letters by Cage. "John Cage's influence on the artistic life of the twentieth century can hardly be overestimated" (Richard Koshalek, Director's Foreword). Cage, best-known as a composer, conceived of the exhibition as a "composition for museum."
