Pebble Beach CA: (Pebble Beach Company), 1963. 11 7/8" x 15 3/8" handsomely framed birds-eye view of the Monterey Peninsula highlighting area landmarks and the layout of the proposed 'Pebble Beach Pines Golf Course.' The verso shows 'Site "A" - Indian Village Area Preliminary Plan "E"' Revised Oct. 14, 1963' showing yardage and par for each hole. According to Pebble Beach historian Neal Hoteling, Plan "E" is the near-final layout for the golf course. The map is designed by Runyan S. Whitman. Fine condition. A rare map; no copies located in online institutions nor at auction in the past 30 years. Item #22563
Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., the course was originally to be called Pebble Beach Pines Golf Club. Sam Morse, the founder of the Pebble Beach Company, renamed it 'Spyglass Hill' after a location in Robert Louis Stevenson's novel 'Treasure Island' (nearly every hole was named after a significant place or character in Stevenson's novel).
