The catalogue for the exhibition Yamanaka and Company fielded in celebration of the opening of their New Gallery. Ernest Fenollosa wrote the decriptions of each of the 156 examples of paintings and prints 'of the best periods and masters' by Yamanaka. Fenollosa was an American art historian of Japanese art... (he) was an enthusiastic Orientalist who did much to preserve traditional Japanese art. Arthur Wesley Dow said of Fenollosa that "he was gifted with a brilliant mind of great analytical power, this with a rare appreciation gave him an insight into the nature of fine art such as few ever attain."
