Japanese Kataezome Calendar 1962
[Kyoto]: 1962. First Edition. 15 1/4 x 11 1/2". Each month in this collection presents a beautiful example of hand-made "Mingei" (or Japanese folk art) and contains 13 original designs (one page for each month as well as a rectangular label on the envelope); each one stenciled on handmade untrimmed Japanese mulberry paper. A near fine set. Item #22894
A scarce and very charming set of Katazome 1962 Calendar pages, created by Japanese National Living Treasure Keisuke Serizawa (1895 - 1984), who was a true master of this simple yet elegant hand stencil printing technique on fabric and paper in Japan. Many museums (like the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and The British Museum) hold examples of Serizawa’s kataezome calendars in their collections. They’re recognized not just as calendars, but as works of art.
