This album of stunning chromolithographic illustrations depicts the California Midwinter Internation Exposition, commonly called the Midwinter Fair, held in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, from late January to early July 1894. The event covered about 200 acres, featured around 120 structures, and attracted over 2 million visitors. The album includes views such as the Grand Court Illuminated; Santa Clara, Santa Barbara, and Alameda County Buildings; View From Electric Tower Looking Towards the Ocean; Chinese Procession; View in Grand Court Showing Horticultural and Fine Arts Buildings; Northern and Southern California Buildings; Japanese Tea Garden; and the Electric Fountain and Liberal Arts Building. The artist Charles John Dickman (1863–1943), was a prolific San Francisco illustrator whose dynamic renderings captured the fair's eclectic pavilions, illuminations, and multicultural spectacles for the Dickman-Jones Co. publishing house he co-founded.
