William Ritschel (1864-1949) was a prominent impressionist painter celebrated for his seascapes and landscapes, particularly those depicting the California coast. Taylor studied painting with Armin Hansen and Gottardo Piazzoni before establishing with his brother Edward, the printing firm, Taylor & Taylor in 1896. Inscribed 'To My Friends Nora and William Ritschel as a memento of a very special event in my life and as a remebrance of our many years of association and understanding from Edward DeWitt Taylor June 17th 1948.'.
