Silk cord-tied portfolio (20" x 16 1/2") with title page followed by 12 color reproductions (10" x 7.75" image size mounted on larger sheets) of Kate Montague Hall's original oil paintings of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition's buildings, courts, fountains, and events. Each mount is signed in pencil by the artist beneath the image. The color plates were created by American Engraving and Color Plate Co.; the portfolio was printed by Independent Pressroom, San Francisco. Light soiling and staining to front cover; the color plates are clean, no tears or creasing. The rear cover extends 4 1/2" down from the upper edge (see image). Item #23132
Kate Montague Hall (1874–after 1915) was an American artist best known for her series of paintings represented in this portfolio. She studied at the Mark Hopkins Art Institute under Arthur Mathews and was a long-time pupil of William Keith. She later studied in Paris with Jean Paul Laurens. The color prints include: Arch of the Nations; California Building; Column of Progress; Actors' Day, Court of Abundance; Fine Arts Building; Fountain Basin, Court of Abundance; Fountain of Energy and Festival Hall; Horticulture Building; Nations of the East, Court of the Universe; Rising Sun, Court of the Universe; Tower of the Court of Abundance; and Tower of Jewels.
