The Botanico-Medical Recorder was the principal journal of the Independent Thomsonian (later Physio-Medical) movement, an influential nineteenth-century reform movement that advocated botanical remedies and opposed the "heroic" medicine of the regular medical establishment. The Recorder championed botanical therapeutics, medical reform, and the establishment of the Botanico-Medical College of Ohio. An important primary source for the history of alternative medicine, medical education, and antebellum health reform in the United States.
