Trail Dust and Saddle Leather (INSCRIBED, with original drawing)

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1946. Jo J. Mora. First Edition. INSCRIBED by the author/illustrator in the year of publication, with Jo Mora's charming dawing of a hobby horse chasing a toy cowboy. 8vo. 246 pp. Numerous full page and in-text illustrations. Grey cloth with red lettering and Longhorn skull stamped to front cover in Jo Mora designed dustjacket and endpapers. A near fine copy (light bumping to spine ends; chip & impression from paper clip on ffep; small bookseller label inside rear board) in near fine dust jacket wear to extremities. The dust jacket spine retains its strong red color, which is unusually well preserved, as the spines typically fade; the nicest example we've seen. Item #23539

The evolution of the cowboy and the strong role he and the entire cattle industry played in the development of American society. Much on the cowboy's working tools, clothes, manners and customs and his constant companion, the Western Horse. "No better exposition anywhere, and here tellingly illustrated, of reatas, spurs, bits, saddles, and other gear." Dobie p. 112. (Grandeau & Shorts Books B12a).

Price: $1,000.00
