The journey ended, however, in Hawaii where Bishop spent the next fifty years making a profound influence "...on the basic institutions of society-the home, the school and the church...and having a tremendous impact on the character of the people and the growth of the kingdom that carved his niche in Hawaiian history." Bishop was the husband of Kamehameha Schools founder Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop.
