The Writing of History: A Dialogue
Berkeley and Los Angeles: University of California Press, 1947. Boards. 12mo. 31pp. Original red cloth spine over grey paper covered boards with red lettering. SIGNED by C.R.B. (Mrs. Clare Ryan (Talbot) Bill, noted collector, appraiser, dealer, writer, and historian of bookplates.), Nov, 1948 with comment "A formal history yet has muchto commend in information history."
Tipped in TLS from Samuel to T. Farquahar (brother of Francis Farquahar, noted California historian and bibliographer) to Mrs. Bill. Farquahar is responding to Mrs. Bill's request for a copy of this book, stating there were no more copies available (of about 250 copies printed).
Laid in is a publisher's offering for Bookplates: A Selection From the Works of Charles R. Capon along with a single sheet letter from Capon to Mrs. Bill (presumably, as the top 1/3 of the letter is missing). Book is in fine condition (minor wear to extremities). A great association copy. Item #7613
First read before the Arts Club of the University of California, December 5, 1951.
